Trailer Parking Along Pennsylvania's I-78 and I-81 Corridors

A Pennsylvania corridor-wide requirement needs a local operating anchor. Space that fits one distribution center may be impractical for another facility farther along the network. Start with the actual truck entrance and the daily movement plan, then assess the surrounding area.

SpotCo works with commercial operations on trailer parking, fleet parking and distribution-center overflow nationwide. Share your Pennsylvania facility, equipment quantity, start date and expected term so the requirement can be reviewed at the right local scale. Availability and operating suitability are confirmed for each requirement.

One corridor, several operating areas

FHWA's Pennsylvania freight-network table identifies I-78 from I-81 to the New Jersey line. That connection is useful regional context, not a statement that sites throughout the corridor are interchangeable. FHWA freight network.

Describe whether the requirement serves a south-central Pennsylvania facility, an I-81 operation, or the Lehigh Valley/I-78 area. Include the municipality and exact entrance rather than relying on “eastern Pennsylvania.” If multiple DCs are involved, list each separately with its equipment count and movements.

The Lehigh Valley Planning Commission describes freight planning across several eastern Pennsylvania regions and provides a freight-based land-use management guide. That regional coordination reinforces the need to examine the local approach and intended use for a particular requirement. LVPC freight planning.

A shuttle yard and a holding yard have different priorities

If trailers cycle between the space and a warehouse repeatedly, explain the daily trip pattern and appointment windows. If equipment stays parked for extended periods, describe normal dwell time and when retrievals occur. The closest straight-line location may not create the most practical operating sequence.

Separate the peak parked count from the daily movement count. Give the trailer type, loaded or empty status, tractor parking needs and any special operating requirements. A clear equipment picture helps assess circulation and the intended use before treating an address as a viable option.

Review the complete connection

Compare the facility-to-yard trip during the times your equipment will move. Include the entrance at both ends, the return leg and any local access questions requiring confirmation. State any maximum acceptable movement time as an operating requirement, not as a presumed radius.

PennDOT maintains a statewide freight movement plan to guide freight-related planning and investment. For an individual requirement, the relevant question remains whether the specific location, access and timing fit the operation. PennDOT freight plan.

Send a requirement that can be evaluated

Include the distribution-center address and truck gate, normal and peak equipment counts, daily moves, required start date, minimum expected term, access hours and company contact with phone number. If the requirement spans Greencastle, the Harrisburg area and the Lehigh Valley, describe those as separate operating needs rather than one pooled count.

For a seasonal peak, provide the expected ramp-up and ramp-down dates. For recurring operations, describe the baseline quantity and whether the requirement may expand. These details help distinguish temporary overflow from a sustained fleet requirement without assuming either is already available.
