DISTRIBUTION CENTER OVERFLOW · U.S. MARKETS
Distribution center overflow trailer parking
When trailer volume exceeds the space available at your distribution center, the offsite plan needs to fit the operation. The number of spaces is only part of the requirement. Trailer movements, access hours, start date and length of term determine whether an option will work.
SpotCo handles short- and long-term offsite trailer storage requirements nationwide. Tell us where your operation needs space and what the site must accommodate.
OPERATING REQUIREMENT
Define the operating requirement
Start with the distribution center location, expected trailer count and date needed.
- Loaded or empty trailers
- Movement frequency
- Seasonal or ongoing need
- Access hours
- Surface requirements
- Fencing, lighting and security requirements, for verification
CAPACITY & MOVEMENT
Separate parked capacity from daily movement
The number of trailers parked at one time and the number moving in and out each day are different requirements. A site that can hold the parked count may not handle the arrivals and departures. Describe both:
- Normal and peak parked quantity
- Daily arrivals and departures, and when they happen
- Loaded, empty and refrigerated equipment, including any need for power
- Access hours the operation requires
ROUTE & DISTANCE
Evaluate the route as well as the distance
A nearby address is not enough. Check commercial vehicle routes, the actual entrance, access hours and route restrictions. Agree on acceptable travel time before selecting a search area.
A straight-line radius of 15 to 30 miles is only an initial filter. Each option should be evaluated on its truck entrance, actual truck travel time to the distribution center, route restrictions and who is responsible for moving the equipment between sites.
TERM
Plan for the full term
Share the minimum and maximum trailer count, initial term and potential extension. Availability and site conditions require verification for each requirement.
