Fleet and Trailer Parking Around Indianapolis

An Indianapolis-area requirement can involve different operating locations with different movement patterns. A distribution center in Pendleton, a facility in McCordsville and an Indianapolis operation should each be identified precisely before deciding whether shared parking makes sense.

SpotCo works with commercial operations on trailer parking and distribution-center overflow nationwide. Give us the facility entrance, equipment count, start date and expected term so the requirement can be reviewed. Availability, capacity and site suitability need confirmation for each arrangement.

Keep the municipality in the requirement

Do not replace a specific facility address with a downtown map pin simply because the operation is described as Indianapolis. Identify the municipality, truck gate and destination of each recurring movement. If several facilities need space, separate their equipment counts and access schedules.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization's regional freight work includes freight clusters and highway, rail and air-cargo systems. Its current freight page also links a 2025 supplement addressing critical freight conditions and restrictions. These resources provide regional context; they do not certify a particular yard or truck approach. IMPO freight resources.

Compare separate locations before combining them

One parking location may appear simpler to administer, but the operating comparison needs to include every facility it serves. Record the number of trips, the likely movement windows and which moves occur most often. A location that works for one origin may add recurring movement to another.

For example, a planning sheet can have one row for Pendleton, one for McCordsville and one for another operating gate. Each row should show equipment quantity, daily movements and the maximum acceptable trip time. That is more useful than a single total covering the whole region.

Distinguish storage from active fleet staging

Trailers held for longer periods have a different movement pattern from equipment returning each shift or transferring to receiving appointments throughout the day. Describe loaded and empty trailers separately, note tractor parking needs and give both normal and peak parked counts.

Include any access, circulation, surface, lighting or security requirements. If the equipment has special needs, identify them for evaluation. The operating layout and permitted use have to be reviewed rather than inferred from acreage or a nearby distribution building.

Use the real approach and schedule

Regional highway connectivity is only part of a gate-to-gate journey. INDOT publishes interchange information for the state's interstate network, including I-465 around Indianapolis. That is a useful reference when describing an operating approach, not a substitute for confirming the actual local entrance and current conditions. INDOT interchange resources.

Explain whether movements concentrate around shift changes or appointment windows, or can be spread across the day. Review both directions. A mileage circle does not capture every access constraint or the time used by repeated moves.

Define the quantity over the term

Provide a baseline count and any expected peak separately. Include the first date needed, minimum duration and whether the requirement changes as a facility ramps up or an assignment ends. Flexibility in quantity or timing depends on the eventual confirmed arrangement and should not be assumed.

Tell us your operating requirements. Send facility addresses and gates, equipment type and counts, movement frequency, start date, term, company contact and phone number. For broader coordination, see multi-location fleet parking, dedicated fleet parking and DC overflow.
